Orientation is an important activity before our deployment because it can help us to know the rules and regulations impose by the school that we are assigned to observe. As we went to the Angeles Elementary School, we felt the warm welcome of the teachers and the principal. Mrs. Ofelia Canlas, the principal of Angeles Elementary School, did a short orientation and discuss their expected behavior from us for our 20 hours of observation. She highlighted three important rules that we need to follow. First, BE ON TIME. It is important for us pre-service teachers to practice being on time because it is really important in our profession. We need to respect the time of other people and we can do that by being on time. Second, WE NEED TO LOVE WHAT WE ARE DOING. Being teacher is not an easy profession. There are lots of sleepless nights preparing your lesson plan and instructional materials. There are lots of things that we need to consider to make our learning and teaching process more effective and fun. So if we love what we are doing, we can lessen the chance of being burn out in our everyday routine. We need to be an effective and efficient teacher for our students in the future. Lastly, WE ARE NOT VISITORS. We need to remember that even if we are observers we need to help our cooperating teachers. We are not visitors, we are part of the classroom. We need to be sensitive and cooperative during our 20 hours stay in AES. As I start my observation, I will apply all the rules and regulations. I will maximize my last 20 hours of being an observer to equip myself more before I finally become practice teacher next semester.
